Storytime Saturday – Pass It On by Sophie Henn

Storytime Saturday a weekly blog feature showcasing any new books we’ve been reading with Erin, reviewing picture books and talking about our monthly library haul! Basically, Storytime Saturday is all about books!

This week I’ll be talking about the book Pass It On by Sophie Henn

Pass It On is described as ‘a playful and life-affirming picture book about positivity and finding happiness in everyday things.’

Honestly, the stock image for this book really does not do it justice. The front cover is a very stylish grey with raised, colourful lettering which is surrounded by balloons. The colours really pop on the front page and I just love running my fingers over the raised parts. Children will love feeling the difference in textures on this front cover.

Pass It On is a wonderful story of the simple things that can make someone’s day, no matter what is going on. Henn puts across the message in such a simple way that children will be able to easily understand. With pages full of block colours and interesting characters, Pass It On is also a feast for the eyes! I absolutely love the blue page with the bright orange octopus in the middle.

A smile is all it takes to make someone’s day no matter where they’re from or what kind of life they have (e.g. a monkey or an elephant or an octopus) and Henn encourages the reader to pass on that smile and find the fun in an unexpected place.

Pass It On was published by Puffin on 4th February and is aimed at children aged 2-5.
