Storytime Saturday a weekly blog feature showcasing any new books we’ve been reading with Erin, reviewing picture books and talking about our monthly library haul! Basically, Storytime Saturday is all about books! This week we’re showcasing The Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat by Coral Rumble. The book was published by Wacky Bee Books on 4th April 2017.

The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea, in a box on the living room floor. They sailed away for a year and a day and these are the things that they saw… Join two curious children on a quirky adventure, loosely based on the classic Edward Lear poem, The Owl and the Pussycat.

It’s not very often that I take part in blog tours these days but there are certain books that I will make an exception for. I’m so glad that I did for The Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat. Strangely, I don’t actually remember the poem at all. I know that I must have heard it as a child but I wouldn’t be able to even tell you one line from it.

The Owl and the Pussycat go off on a make believe adventure in their living room to the sea and along the way, they discover a whole load of interesting and colourful characters. Erin has recently discovered fish and sea creatures after our trip to Sea Life London and she’s now obsessed, making this the perfect book for her.

This is only a short book but it is perfect for children like Erin. She is 16 months old so has a short attention span but she will happily sit and listen to me read this book. It really helps that the story has wonderful rhyming to it and the illustrations are so bright and interesting! Erin and I can spend ages pointing out different things on each page.

What I love the most about this book is that it encourages children (and adults) to be imaginative and make more out of what is already there!
