Storytime Saturday: This is the Kiss

AD | Gifted

Storytime Saturday a weekly blog feature showcasing any new books we’ve been reading with Erin, reviewing picture books and talking about our monthly library haul! Basically, Storytime Saturday is all about books! This week we’re talking about This is the Kiss by Claire Harcup. It was published by Walker Books on 5th January 2017.

A charming and lyrical picture book that celebrates the timeless bond between parent and child. You’ve had a fun day and you’re ready for bed. This is the wave that led to the smile, that led to the giggle and the kiss goodnight. A delightful story from Claire Harcup with beautiful illustrations by Gabriel Alborozo, perfect for sharing at bedtime.

Honestly, what drew me towards this book was the cover. How cute are the two bears snuggled up in the snow? I couldn’t resist.

This is a fantastic book for bedtime and I know we’re going to have a lot of fun reading this to Erin before bedtime over the years. The book is a sort of nighttime routine that leads up to a kiss goodnight at the end. There is a different action or thing to do on each page like a tickle or a cuddle. It’s so tremendously cute!

The book is set in a snowy winter scene so it would have been perfect to read over Christmas or when we did actually get some snow. However, it does work at any other time of the year as well.

The illustrations are really quite simple but then so is the point of the book. There are only two characters and one location so there is lots of snow and then the two bears. I like the simplicity of this book though because it doesn’t need much to illustrate the point.

This is the Kiss is perfect for children of all ages. Erin may only be 14 months old now but we can read this to her for many years to come.
