Once you finally take the big decision to work from home you need to get an office set up and you need to do it quickly. It is also likely that you will not have much money to spend on it at this stage so value for money will be a big issue as well. Here’s how you can set up a home office in just three days so that you can get on with some work and start earning some money!
Day 1: Order what you need and have a clear out
Start by ordering what you need to kit out your new room. It will take a few days for it to arrive so it is best to start early. At the very least, you will need a desk, a chair, and some shelves to keep files and papers. Buying second-hand is your best option and there are some real bargains to be had on sites like eBay and Gumtree. However, don’t ignore what is available in your local area because it can be quicker to get hold of them. Watch out for posts on social media and even simple cards in the Post Office window.

Moving bulky items to your home does not have to be a problem when you use Shiply to compare quotes and services with just one simple form. You don’t have to spend hours on the phone and you know you are getting a good deal.
Of course, there is no point in ordering new stuff if you have nowhere to put it so day 1 is all about having a good old clear out. Pack up everything that is not associated with your work and pop it up in the loft. If you leave it hanging around it will be a distraction as you are trying to work.
Day 2: Decorating and preparing
This is the crunch day for decoration and preparation. Now that the room is empty it will probably look like it needs a coat of paint. Pick up some cheap emulsion from B&Q in a neutral colour and refresh the walls. Then rub back the paintwork and give them a coat of gloss paint. Check that the windows are clean, you want the natural light to come flooding in. replace old light shades and give the floor a good clean.
This is a good day to show the rest of the family that you mean business. This is no longer the room where they can dump their rubbish. If they bring anything in, take it back out again!
Day 3: Setting up your workspace
This is it! This is the day when you can really set up your workspace. The desk, chair and shelves will be delivered and you can choose the right spot to put them. You can add finishing touches such as a desk lamp and desk organiser. Hang a few pictures on the walls to give it a more welcoming feel.
No all you have to do is shut the door and get down to work!
