When Mum moved in with us Erin was so excited. Before, Mum lived over 6 hours away by train and we got to see her maybe 5 or 6 times a year. Erin couldn’t wait to have her Grandma close by and to do really special things together. Since Mum moved in back in December she and Erin have spent some time together in the kitchen each week baking. Baking is not my thing at all and the best I can do is make something out of a packet but Mum and Erin bake from scratch, usually making something new each week.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner Sparks & Daughters sent Erin and her Grandma the personalised rainbow apron set. Sometimes we can get too wrapped up with presents for Mum and we forget about buying a gift for grandparents. The great thing about this set is that you can personalise it with whatever names you want, making it a great gift for Mother’s Day, no matter who you are buying it for.
As soon as I showed Erin the matching aprons she couldn’t wait to get hers on and get in the kitchen. Immediately, Erin picked out her own name on the front of her apron and went on to spell it out to me. She was also very excited about the fact that the lettering of the names were in the same colours as the rainbows.
The aprons come in either adult or child sizes and I’ll be honest, I was a little worried about Erin’s not fitting her. She’s not long turned 4 but is still quite small for her age. At the back of the neck on the child’s apron there is a velcro closure but unfortunately this area didn’t really fit Erin very well. Done up with the velcro, the apron drooped down in the front. However, this was easily fixed by tying the fabric in a loose knot instead.
Erin doesn’t like anything too fussy when it comes to clothes and she doesn’t like anything that will annoy her. If she wears something she doesn’t like she will pull at it or ask to wear something else instead. Erin apron stayed put the whole time that her and Grandma were baking and she didn’t ask to take it off once.
Baking can be such a messy activity. One time Erin stuck her head in a bowl to lick it and got cake mix all over her hair and as I’m sure you can imagine, it was not fun to clean up! Having an apron that covers most of Erin’s torso and having it nearly reach her knees is great for us. Instead of wiping anything all over her clothes she is well protected and can even wipe her hands on her apron if she wants to!
Now, every time Erin wants to bake she gets so excited about wearing an apron to match Grandma’s. I think having something like this makes their time in the kitchen that little bit more special and it’s like they are a proper team putting together whatever delicious recipe is on the cards that day.
