How to Plan the Perfect Family Summer Holiday Without the Stress

Happy Family Strolling on a Tropical Beach

Collaborative post

The festive season has passed us by, and although winter is still in full force, families are starting to look ahead for the next bit of excitement. For many, this means searching for and booking sun-drenched holidays. Planning for a family trip can be stressful, but there are some simple ways you can make it easier for yourself.

Explore Different Destinations

It can be easy to fall into the trap of heading to the same destination every year because you know it and like it. However, the world is full of amazing places to explore, so maybe it is time to try somewhere new.

Beach resorts are always a family favourite, and there are some great ones just a short plane ride away. Recently, the likes of Slovenia and Montenegro have soared in popularity and become family favourites alongside traditional destinations.

Holidays don’t always have to be about beaches and the coast. Consider city breaks too. Cities do tend to be busier and livelier, but that just means there is more for all the family to enjoy. If you go off-season, things may seem a bit calmer, and you will love having a wander around.

Plan Activities for All

Once you have your destination narrowed down, you can start to plan an itinerary. Make sure you try to balance everyone’s wants and rest days. You should add pool days to the holiday itinerary, in between action-packed days.

It can be hard as parents not to guide holidays towards nostalgic activities that you used to do as kids. Whilst some will be suitable, remember that your kids are individuals and should be catered for as such. There is a growing trend for ‘kidcations’ where children take the lead when it comes to planning holidays and activities. Doing so means that everyone will enjoy themselves and hopefully avoid some arguments!

Pack Smartly

Packing can be overwhelming, especially when you have to pack for little ones as well. Plus, you always leave worrying that you have forgotten something.

To make things easier, create a checklist before you begin. Having everything written down helps you to visualise what you will need and ensures you keep on track. Some kids will be able to help with this if they are a little older. Give them their own list and get them going – though it may be worth checking their suitcase before you head to the airport.

Budget Well Ahead of Time

The cost of basic household goods has increased, so trying to finance a holiday on top of that can be a worry. If you can, plan your holiday with plenty of time to spare, giving you more time to save up.

Take time to look at your current financial situation and set a realistic budget.  You may be able to save costs in some areas by booking things early and taking advantage of deals. To avoid spending your holiday fun, keep it in a dedicated bank account, meaning you’re less tempted to dip into it.
