This book is clearly a bit too old for Erin at the moment but to be honest, I was really interested in reading it for myself. I hate to admit it but I don’t know a lot about this kind of thing and I wanted to educate myself but in an easy way. Earth Heroes is great for this as nothing is too complex or confusing.
What I particularly liked about Earth Heroes was that the 20 people featured are all really different and have all done very different things. There was a few that I had heard of, such as Stella McCartney, but I didn’t really know the specifics about what they did and why. I didn’t know before that she made clothes from things like recycled water bottles and man-man spider silk or that she was an animal rights activist. The book gives a bit of history to the person as well as talking about their achievements.
Of course, there are a lot less well-known ‘Earth Heroes’ in the book such as Marina Silva who tried to save the rainforest or Doug Smith, whose love for wolves helped to stop them being endangered. I really loved reading about the extraordinary people doing amazing things to try to help the planet. It’s a really interesting read and as the chapters are quite small, it can be picked up and put down, ready to read some more another day.
Earth Heroes is a really great choice of book for children, especially those interested in anything eco at the moment. Regardless of that, I think it’s a fun but educational read that will certainly open eyes to different things and people around the world.
