Some days are harder to get through than others, but when you’re sad, or lonely, or angry, it helps to remember these words: the Isle of You. Take a moment to shake off your worries, then set sail to a land where your dreams can come true. Soar on the back of an eagle, hunt for treasure, watch dancing polar bears on roller skates — anything you can imagine is yours.

We are always on the look out for books that are truly special and a bit different from everything else we have. When Isle Of You By David LaRochelle turned up on our doorstep thanks to Walker Books, I couldn’t wait to open it.

Isle of You follows a young girl who has had a bit of a bad day. To forget about what has happened the girl is invited to a place where all of her dreams can come true. The pages of the book are beautifully drawn with an ethereal feel to them. Each image on every page reminds me of a beautiful dream.

The girl in the story visits various different situations, all of which could make her very happy from flying on a giant bird to taking a little rest on the hammock. The book invites the reader to think about all of the different things that might make them happy if they’d had a bad day themselves.

Isle of You isn’t really about ‘things’ or experiences that can make you happy though. Instead, the end of the book has a wonderful message and one that is so important for young readers to learn! This is such a beautiful book in both the images and the meaning behind the words and we’ve quickly become big fans.
