This week’s children’s book review is all about This Is A Dog by Ross Collins. It was published by Nosy Crow and it can be purchased on Amazon*.

A hilarious paperback picture book from the award-winning, bestselling author and illustrator, Ross Collins, about a mischevious dog who steals the limelight.

Uh-oh! An excitable (but very loveable) dog has found his way into this First Animals book and he will NOT let any of the other animals take their turn. Dogs are far more important, after all! And when the other animals get angry, this dog comes up with a very cunning plan to outwit them . . .

When it comes to book for babies and toddlers, a lot of them can seem sort of… samey, especially if they are a ‘firsts’ book. This Is A Dog is definitely a bit different! Instead of being a regular firsts book about animals, this one is all about a very mischievous dog who wants to be the center of attention.

Throughout the book you are introduced to a variety of animals, although the dog has something going on with each of them. As you can see from the image above, the dog tries to dress like an elephant (who is pictured on the page opposite). Sometimes the dog can be found doing things like chasing a squirrel or even weeing on a giraffe!

Each set of pages is really brightly coloured and I love how bold the book is. It’s such a joy to flick through this because purely because of the colours. For young children, these are going to be great. Also, the pages aren’t very busy so you’re able to really pay attention to the animals and what’s going on with them.
