Storytime Saturday a weekly blog feature showcasing any new books we’ve been reading with Erin, reviewing picture books and talking about our monthly library haul! Basically, Storytime Saturday is all about books! This week we’re talking about Jungle Jam by Noam and Louise Lederman.
For as long as I can remember, Erin has loved musical instruments. We started going to Baby Sensory classes when she was 8 weeks old and she instantly went for the shakers! So, when we were asked to review this book, I was quite excited!
Jungle Jam is a fantastic introduction to musical instruments for children aged 0-4. Mikey the Monkey goes on a journey to become a rich and famous singer, as it is what he loves to do. On his way, he meets a variety of characters who can all play different instruments. Larry the Lion, for example, can play the piano.
Jungle Jam not only teaches children about the different musical instruments but also how to work with others. Mikey the Monkey can’t make it as a singer all on his own, he need a band with him.
As John read this Jungle Jam to Erin, she couldn’t take her eyes off the pages. The illustrations are really bright and colourful and the animal characters are fantastic. The book is also written in rhyme!
As an added extra, Jungle Jam comes with ideas at the back of the book for making your own instruments. You can make your own shaker and guitar out of household items if you wanted to. I think this is a really fab idea as I’m sure loads of children would want instruments after reading this book.
Jungle Jam has been a big hit in our house. There are plans to continue this on as a series, focusing on different genres of music and different instruments. I know we’d be getting any further releases.
Jungle Jam was published by VVinner Music on 23rd August 2016.
