When we recently had the opportunity to work with AO.com, one of the products we said we would like to review was the Nutri Ninja Smoothie Maker. Now, we already have a food processor with a drinks attachment but it doesn’t deal with ice or frozen fruit very well at all and I had heard amazing things about these from Kirstie Allsopp when I went to the Handmade Fair earlier this year. I didn’t understand what could be so good about it… but I certainly do now!
The Nutri Ninja Smoothie Maker comes with the base unit, two cups, two lids and the blade attachment, along with a recipe book and manual. This comes in a pretty large box but it is really well packaged and absolutely nothing is going to move inside! The great thing about the recipe book is that is explains which functions to use for different kinds of foods and I found it extremely helpful!
To get started you obviously need to choose what you are going to make. I went with a pretty easy smoothie of banana, melon and frozen blueberries. The recipe booklet explains that the foods should be put into the cups in a certain order, to help the blending process and to get the nicest possible outcome. So, I started with banana, then the melon and lastly, the frozen blueberries. I then attached the blade to the cup and fixed it into place on the main unit. The blueberries ended up closest the the blade while the banana was at the top of the cup.
As I was using both frozen and fresh ingredients I used the Ultra Blend setting. This puts the Nutri Ninja Smoothie Maker on for 60 seconds and starts and stops over the whole time. I was amazed at how easily this machine dealt with the frozen blueberries. My food processor wouldn’t have liked them at all! In only 60 seconds I had a deliciously smelling, amazing looking smoothie and it was so simple to make!
All I needed to do after making the smoothie was to detach the blade and add a lid to my cup. My smoothie was all ready to drink. The blade only needed a quick rinse clean and the cup didn’t need much cleaning afterwards either. Perfect! I love that there are 2 lids and they can be closed really well. John will be making smoothies in the morning now and taking to work with him!
For £55 this is one amazing machine and I love it. The recipe book shows you that you can do loads more than make smoothies with it though as there are recipes for things like hummus and soups! I can’t wait to get experimenting.
