Storytime Saturday a weekly blog feature showcasing any new books we’ve been reading with Erin, reviewing picture books and talking about our monthly library haul! Basically, Storytime Saturday is all about books!

This week I’m looking at a fairly new release from Random House Children’s. The Bumblebear by Nadia Shireen was published on 5th May and is aimed at children 0-5.

We do love a good bear book in our house and this one looked really fun and different from the start. I can’t say that I have ever seen a bear dressed up as a bee before. The front cover is so bright and colourful, with its blue background and bee themed characters, that I would have picked this up had I seen it on the shelf.

Nadia Shireen delivers a wonderful story about friendship and being different. As a bear Norman loves honey but he gets really sad when it runs out so he comes up with a master plan to pretend to be a bee to get more. Going to bee school isn’t quite as easy as he thought though, even in his disguise, because not everyone believes that Norman is actually a bee. The story is really funny and there is some really good language used that is fun and entertaining for children.

The illustrations are fantastic and are also done by Shireen. The pages are bright and colourful and really hold Erin’s attention. Although she’s only 5 months old she is really starting to get interested in looking at the book during storytime. The pictures used in The Bumblebear, along with the entertaining story really kept Erin interested the whole way through. I have to say, the little bees look like an army of bee minions!

This was our first book by Shireen but it certainly won’t be the last. Her other titles look super fun!
