What To Pack For An Outdoor Adventure

Lit up tents in the woods

AD – This post is in collaboration with Simply Hike. All opinions are our own.

I’ll be completely honest here and say that the thought of an outdoor holiday would have been the very last thing on my list of preferred holidays. But, I moved to Norfolk in 2013 and I have been in love with the outdoors ever since. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country with so many places to explore for short breaks and holidays. This year we are going for a 4 night break to Kelling Heath which offers camping, caravans and lodges and with that in mind, I wanted to write about what to pack for an outdoor adventure.

Walking boots

Whether you are going on a short break or a day out in the countryside you will undoubtedly walk a lot. For me, there is not much worse than being out in the middle of nowhere and being uncomfortable in any way. There’s not much you can do about discomfort once you’re in the middle of the woods or the countryside. A comfortable pair of walking boots are such a good investment and an absolute must have for your adventures.

Somewhere to sleep

Planning on making your adventure last a couple of days? You’re going to need somewhere to sleep. When it comes to sleeping in the great outdoors (or a camping site) then warmth and safety are my absolute must haves. Simply Hike is a great place to look for tents and of course, different needs require different thinks. Vango tents offer affordable and practical tents as well as super warm sleeping bags, pillows and other accessories.

Cooking equipment

I think one of the cool things about camping or spending a long time outdoors is doing something a bit different when it comes to food. I love the idea of sitting outside of a tent, cooking some sausages and beans over a camp fire and enjoying the night sky at the same time. You don’t get experiences like this elsewhere and if you’re camping as a group then what better place to socialise. Cooking equipment doesn’t have to be big or bulky though, especially if you’re careful and you only take what you absolutely need with you.

Warm clothes

As we well know, the UK weather can be extremely unpredictable and you never really know what is going to happen. It doesn’t matter if the forecast says it will be sunny and warm all day, you could end up with hours of rain instead!

For an outdoor adventure you are definitely going to need warm and waterproof clothes. Being cold is one thing but being cold and wet is even worse! Nights can also get cold very quickly so it’s important to layer up and ensure that you are warm enough for the whole night, but can take off layers if you need to.

Technology

The last thing you want to be while out on an adventure is lost, stranded and without help. Not only should you take a well charged mobile phone with you but you should also take a spare battery/ power bank. Although most campsites will have sockets and electricity so you can keep these charged before every outing but without them, if something happens you want to make sure you have a way to make a phone call to someone!
