Although we are all stuck at home at the minute, and for good reason, I know most of us will be missing our family and friends. Personally, I am missing my monthly meals out with a friend, spending time with my sister and brother in law, and also, for Erin to see her friends too. Instead of moping around dwelling on things we can’t do, I thought I’d share some fun ways that we can stay in touch with our friends and family during these hard times.
Handwritten letters
When I was younger I remember loving getting real post… the kind that isn’t just bills. I lived in Canada when I was about 20 for a year and during that time I always used to send letters home to my friends and family.
Now that Erin is 4 and understands what it means to get letters etc. I thought this would be a good time to get her to send some post. She might not be able to write her own letters yet but she can draw pictures with her name on that we can send to people we know.
Video Calls
I think we’re very lucky that we’re in a time when we don’t have dial up internet any more, skype is free and we can even make video calls via Facebook messenger. If you have family or friends close by that you can’t see then this is a great way to stay in touch. Of course, it’s even better if you want a catch up with anyone who might live further away too. Erin really misses seeing her aunt and uncle on a regular basis so this is a great way for her to see her family without compromising our safety and health.
Invitations
Although some events might have been cancelled for now some will hopefully still go ahead later in the year when things get back to normal. People work really hard and it would be sad if they were not able to celebrate achievements.
We’re coming up to the end of the school year and there will be plenty of people thinking about graduation and what comes after that. Of course, people will be looking at sending out high school graduation invitations to the people they would like to celebrate with. I didn’t end up going to my own university graduation and I really regret that. I wish the people I love could have been there to do something special with me.
After spending some time putting together your graduation invitations ideas wouldn’t it be nice to people to get these in the post and having something amazing to look forward to? Of course, if there is still some uncertainly about whether the big day will go ahead, maybe you could invite people to celebrate via an online video call and throwing your own graduation party. Of course, if people are generous enough to send a graduation gift to then you’ll want to think about sending a graduation gift thank you note too!
How are you planning on keeping in touch with family and friends at the moment? I’d love to hear your ideas!
