What We’ve Been Watching: July 2018

What We’ve Been Watching is a monthly feature where we talk about everything we’ve been watching over the past month. It might be something on Netflix, Sky or even just a DVD we’ve had for years but wanted to watch again. If we’ve been watching something new we’ll talk about that too!

*May contain spoilers so read with caution

Black Panther

Before my sister and her fiance moved out I made sure I watched some of their DVDs before they went. One that I had been dying to see since it came out was Black Panther.

Honestly, I was expecting more and I HATE having to say that. I thought the first half of the film was quite drawn out and I really didn’t see the need to have the token white guy (Martin Freeman). However, as soon as Michael B. Jordan showed up then I was much more invested. Overall, Black Panther was a really good film but for some reason, I just didn’t love it as much as I thought I would.

The Help

The Help was on TV a couple of months ago so I recorded it on Sky+. I had been told that I would really enjoy this film so it didn’t take me long to get around to watching it. The Help is based on a novel and is about a young, aspiring journalist who wants to write from the perspective of black maids in the ’60s.

I really loved this film and it has such a good cast;Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard and Allison Janney, just to name a few! It’s quite a long film but it’s so worth the watch.

Orange Is The New Black

I feel like I’m always waiting for the next series of Orange Is The New Black to come on Netflix! Series 6 seems to have taken forever to get here and now that I have Erin, I’m not able to binge watch the whole thing in one day like I used to. This time it took about 4 days to get through all of the episodes.

I didn’t love this series nearly as much as the others. I was excited to see what was going to happen to everyone after the riot. This series was all a bit bland compared to the past 5 and I found myself not caring too much about watching it. I haven’t felt like this about any series of OITNB so far so it was quite disappointing.

Grey’s Anatomy

Soon I am going to have to stop including Grey’s Anatomy in these posts. Since my sister moved out and I no longer had to wait for her to get home from work to watch some episodes I have been flying through them. When she moved out we were at the end of series 8 but I’ve now just finished series 12.

Series 11 was like it was written by the Game of Thrones writers. I know some of the previous series were pretty shocking with some big deaths and super exciting episodes but series 11 won hands down. I think I spent most of that series crying and was not prepared for what happened. Thankfully, series 12 was really funny and a bit more lighthearted and I really needed. I now have the series 13 box set ready and series 14 recorded on Sky so it won’t be long until I’m all caught up.

I’d love to know what you’ve been watching this month and if you’ve got any recommendations for new series to start, let me know in the comments. Scrapbook Blog has some great ideas for new things to watch so I might start some of those next month.
