American Breakfast Waffles In Under 15 Minutes

American Breakfast Waffles In Under 15 Minutes

Ever since our holiday and wedding in Orlando back in 2013 I have had this massive love for American breakfast waffles but unfortunately, have never been able to make any. Earlier this month we received a new waffle maker from Dunelm to help us out for Christmas Day breakfast and it is amazing!

American breakfast waffles are so much easier to make than I thought they were. I had visions of me messing them up like I normally do with crepes and I thought I’d do something really wrong with the recipe. The problem with looking up recipes on the internet is that there are so many different ones to try and so many tiny differences in them. It took me a while to find a couple of different recipes that I wanted to try and in the end, I made a bit of a mash up of a couple of them.

Although we are planning on having these for breakfast on Christmas Day they also make a great meal at any other time in the day or a great desert. The possibility for toppings is endless really but here’s a list of some you might like to try:

  1. Ice cream
  2. Fruit
  3. Peanut butter
  4. Maple syrup
  5. Chocolate spread
  6. Melted chocolate
  7. Jam
  8. Cinnamon
  9. Fudge sauce
  10. Whipped cream
  11. Chopped nuts
  12. Bacon
  13. Scrambled eggs
  14. Cream cheese
  15. Fried chicken

There are so many options for waffles and that’s what I love about them. You can make them exactly to your taste and you can make them with different toppings for everyone!

As I said, the recipe I ended up using is actually a mix of a few different ones and I hoped for the best. Luckily, the turned out amazingly well. This recipe will give you lovely fluffy waffles on the inside with a slight crunch out the outside. From start to finish, cooking the first waffle took less than 15 minutes so they’re perfect for a busy family or a quick fix!

American Breakfast Waffles

  • 150 g self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 240 ml semi-skimmed milk
  1. Start by mixing all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.

  2. Gradually beat in the egg while slowly adding milk. The batter should be as smooth as possible.

  3. If you want sweet waffles you can add in a tiny bit of vanilla extract if you wish but it’s not necessary.

  4. Pre-heat your waffle machine.

  5. Spray waffle machine with oil once hot.

  6. Ladle in the batter and close, sealing in the waffle. Refer to your waffle machine for cooking times but ours take about 5-7 minutes each depending on the amount of batter used.

  7. Serve warm with delicious toppings!

If you end up giving this recipe a go, please do share this post and let me know if you liked the waffles!
