Recently Kate Hudson has come under fire in the press for saying that the laziest thing she’s ever done is to have a C-Section. This came about as part of an interview and since then, it’s been all over social media and I can’t say that I’m surprised.
As someone who has had a C-Section herself, and an emergency one at that, I would never say that this is the ‘lazy option’. Hell, I wouldn’t have even said it before having one myself seeing as the NHS consider it as a major operation. I think I would go as far as saying that my C-Section was the most horrendous this I have ever had to have done and also the hardest thing I have ever had to recover from.
As far as I’m aware having a C-Section means recovery time of 6-8 weeks, maybe longer. This is having surgery under calm and controlled circumstances. Having an emergency C-Section can little a little while longer to heal from as there could be some trauma from the quickness of getting things done. That’s 2 months or more of being very, very careful with your body and trying not to over do things even though you have a newborn baby to look after.
In my case, I had the emergency C-Section with pretty much all of my insides being pulled out (gross, I know). Erin got stuck and the doctor’s needed to make space to get her out so that had to happen. Then, instead of staying in hospital a few days to recover I ended up with sepsis and e-coli. I had a week of cannulas in both arms and hands, tubes down my throat and nose, constant oxygen and even a second surgery after a week to sort me out. My first week in hospital not being able to hold Erin or feed her was absolute hell. I don’t remember visitors because I could only stay away for a few minutes at a time for a while.
When I finally got home after 2 weeks I could barely walk from the couch to the kitchen, let alone get upstairs myself or have a bath. I think Erin was about 8 weeks old before I even left the house with her because I couldn’t get the pram over the doorstep. I couldn’t wash myself. I had to sleep propped up. That recovery time was awful. Now, 2 years on I still get infections where my scar is at least every couple of weeks.
It’s all well and good for a celebrity to say having a C-Section was a lazy thing to do, but for normal people, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Celebrities have private medical care, people at home to help with absolutely everything, enough money to pay for anything they could possibly need.
What do you think about Kate Hudson’s comment? Have you had a C-Section yourself? I’d love to know in the comments.
