As a child I don’t remember being very outdoorsy. I know that I definitely didn’t like any kind of creature or bug and I probably would have run a mile before actually picking one up or touching it. I know that’s really not a good way to be though and from a very young age we have encouraged Erin to embrace all there is about the outdoors.
To help Erin get even more involved and interested in the great outdoors we were recently sent the GeoSafari Jr. Critter Habitat from Learning Resources.
Often when we are out playing in the garden we come across a ladybird or spider etc. and Erin wants to take a closer look but doesn’t always want them running around on her. I really liked the idea of Erin having somewhere safe to keep her bugs without hurting them and also being able to look at them closely. There are air holes in the lid so there’s no need to worry about there not being enough air for the creature.
The GeoSafari Jr. Critter Habitat has a handy carry handle meaning your little explorer can carry around the jar where ever they want to go. This is a really great feature for if you’re on a day out etc. and haven’t yet found something to catch and look at. It also means that children don’t have to rely on adults to carry it around for them (although I’m sure this will happen too).
The container is water tight so it can be used for either wet or dry habitats. We go on quite varied days out that could range from a park, the beach or a woodland area and there are all different kinds of creatures and plants to collect in these environments. It’s good to know that even if we fill the container with water anything inside will be safe and secure.
The GeoSafari Jr. Critter Habitat has a really handing tube in the lid which can be pulled out. This make it possible to put extra leaves or food in for whatever it is you’ve caught without them escaping. This bit is a bit tricky to do so younger children will definitely need some help. Erin really liked going around the garden and finding new leaves and flowers to put in to make sure her bugs were happy.
Erin loves to try to look at new things up closer but obviously doesn’t want a spider right up to her face. The GeoSafari Jr. Critter Habitat has 4.5x, 3x and 2x magnifying sections so you can look at whatever is inside in different ways. It’s great that Erin can look at things in different ways even though they’re all in the same container.
We have already had so much fun with the GeoSafari Jr. Critter Habitat and Erin can’t wait to take it out with us on our next adventure. I imagine this is something she will be asking to take on holidays and days out for quite some time for now on.
