With the summer holidays getting close to the end, it’s time to start thinking about preparing for going back to school. If you’re looking to get ahead with subject books or brush up on some skills ahead of the new term, Books2Door has you covered.
Learn about the past with awesome history books
History was always one of my favourite subjects at school and it’s still something I enjoy learning about now. With Erin going up to year 3 in September, she will now be learning about more periods of history. I want to be able to help make this subject fun for her, and make it something we can also learn about together.
Something that will keep children going over multiple years at school is the Horrible Histories Blood Curdling box of books, filled with 20 awesome books about history.
Titles in Set :
- Horrible Histories
- Savage Stone Age
- Awesome Egyptians
- Groovy Greeks
- Rotten Romans
- Cut-Throat Celts
- Smashing Saxons
- Vicious Vikings
- Stormin Normans
- Angry Aztecs
- Incredible Incas
- Measly Middle Age
- Terrible Tudors
- Slimy Stuarts
- Gorgeous Georgians
- Vile Victorians
- Villinous Victorians
- Barmy British Empire
- Frighteul First World War
- Woeful Second World War
- Bilitzed Brits
The easiest way to get children to want to learn is to make it fun for them so what better than a set of books filled with all of the really good bits about history? Each book is a great mix of great information, gruesome facts, quizzes and illustrations. Although there’s a lot of text in some places, it’s broken up really well, making them manageable and not too overwhelming.
Whether children are learning about the Romans or Victorians, or just want to read some cool facts, these books are a great choice.
Brush up on your maths skills
On the flip side, maths was definitely not my favourite subject at school. In fact, I was pretty terrible at it and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Luckily, it is one of Erin’s favourite subjects and she declared it the best thing that she did in year 2!
I always think the summer holidays make it hard to get back into the swing of some subjects at school. Using things like the You Are Awesome workbooks over the summer, or during the new term, can help things to stay fresh in your child’s mind.
This is a great value set and it comes with two workbooks:
1. Times Tables Made Easy
2. Maths Made Easy
Encouraging children to do just 10 minutes of maths a day can really help their development and ensure they don’t forget what they learned last term. These books are set into sections over a double page spread so doing 1 section a day really wouldn’t take up much time at all.
Aimed at ages 7-9 and 7-11, these are ideal for Erin going up to year 3 soon. Each book is linked to the National Curriculum so you know your children will be learning the right things. They are filed with tips, encouraging words and cool tricks to help children remember the way to do things!
