During August we ate out a lot. Thanks to the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme we were able to afford to go out a bit more than normal and it also meant that we could go places we might not be able to afford normally. However, this scheme only ran on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays and we needed to find somewhere to eat that was decently priced on another day.
A couple of years ago we reviewed Middletons Steakhouse and Grill in Norwich but hadn’t been back since. When I started looking at lunch options Middletons came up as the best value for money as they offered a set menu.
We arrived around 5 minutes before our booking and was quickly shown to a table upstairs. The tables were nicely spaced out and even when the table next to us was seated, we still had plenty of space. The restaurant felt really safe and well thought out and I honestly didn’t think about it again for the rest of our meal.
On the lunch set menu you have the options of 1 course for £8.95, 2 courses for £9.95 or 3 courses for £10.95. We opted for 2 courses instead of 3 but only because I didn’t like any of the options for starters. However, this is because I’m quite fussy but other people would find there to be plenty of choices. The children’s menu is separate and offers 2 courses for £5.95 or 3 for £6.95.
For our mains we chose the following; minute steak, vegetable tart and a cheeseburger. There are a few different options for sides, of which you get to choose 1 but others are available to purchase if you wish to. Sometimes, when you order from a set menu the portion sizes are tiny but that really wasn’t the case here. We all felt like our meals we well worth the money we were paying.
The food was honestly delicious. I am really picky with steak and I have to have it fully cooked, so not pink at all. This minute steak was cooked to absolute perfection and I even managed to get Erin to try some, which she seemed to enjoy!
Erin’s meal was amazing, especially for the price. She went for garlic bread, a cheeseburger and then chocolate brownie and ice cream. Erin’s not one usually to finish all of her meal anywhere but here she came really close. It was so nice for her to get a meal that she enjoyed so much and for such a good price too.
As part of the set menu we ordered desserts for our second course. We chose Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard, New York Vanilla Cheesecake and Banoffee Mess. Sticky Toffee Pudding is one of my favourites and this was close to one of the best I’ve ever had. It was so light and I really wanted another one afterwards!
For the price, we really couldn’t have asked for more. Not only was the food excellent value for money but it was so delicious. We have been for more expensive meals out lately and they were not nearly as good as this one. I think Middletons has quickly become a favourite and I have no doubt that we’ll be back again in the not too distant future.
