This is smart whether you have babies or teenagers – they just seem to manage to get everything mucky, don’t they? Go For Darker Colours Where Possible
Where possible, go for darker colours. Your walls for instance; choose a darker paint or a darker paper. Absolutely no child has grown up without drawing on the walls at least once. With a dark paper, you might just deter them. At the very least, you won’t be able to see it all that much!
Bear in mind that dark colours can make rooms appear smaller, so you don’t have to go too dark in small rooms.
Don’t Clutter Things Up
Cluttering things up serves nobody. Not only do you have more things to clean and tidy, you also have more things lying around for your kids to break. If you’re going to use accessories and things, make them statement so you don’t need many of them, and don’t make them easy to break.
Add Some Personality
What’s the point in having a family home with no personality? It’ll do your kids good to grow up in an environment like this! Use colours, use patterns, and display your pictures on the walls so that people know you live there. It’s easy enough to find frames for multiple photographs so you can create a collage wall. You could even create a feature wall if you’re brave enough!
Consider Things From Your Kids Level
Go to your kid’s level and consider things from that point. What can they see? What can they touch? Is there anything dangerous? While it’s important your kids learn to grow up in an adult environment, you still need to make sure they’re involved in the design process.
Take The Time To Child Proof
Take the time to childproof your home. This means making sure there isn’t anything your kids can get tangled up in, that there aren’t too many wires hanging around, and that your chemicals and medicines are locked away. Stairgates are also important as soon as your kids are on there feet, or crawling. You turn your back for a second and they are halfway up the stairs!
