Erin turned 3 at the beginning of the year. She is still in the same bedroom as she was when she was born and it’s been a long time since we first decorated that room. I tried to keep it very neutral at the time with no gender specific features but at the time we didn’t know Erin or her personality. Now that Erin knows what she likes and she doesn’t I’ve been thinking about giving her bedroom a bit of a makeover to suit her better. Here are some ideas:
A statement wall
We have a mortgage on our house so we are able to do whatever we want to the walls but if you’re in rented accommodation then you might be a bit more limited to what you can do. In a rented home you might not be able to put pictures up on the wall but may still want to have a feature wall or art in your child’s bedroom.
Wall stickers are such a great way of adding something interesting and fun to a bedroom without putting any nails or screws into the wall. You can get wall stickers in all different sizes from something really small to a large feature piece. Icon Wall Stickers have everything from trees, rainbows and animals to castles and pirates. If you’re looking to add wall stickers to your child’s bedroom then you’re bound to be able to find something to suit.

Themed bedding
If your child’s bedroom has a current theme, or you’re thinking about changing it, then some new bedding can make a real difference. As Erin’s walls are quite a plain colour at the moment I picked some fun bedding with woodland animals and foxes. The colours match the theme of the room and it really adds something a bit more interesting to look at. The great thing with bedding too is that you change it up as often as you like and you can have multiple sets to have something different on a regular occasion.
Children’s Beds
To combine style with storage, cabin beds with drawers or high sleeper beds are the perfect choice for your children’s bedroom. We all wish we had more space, especially in a child’s room filled with toys and games, and with these types of children’s beds, you get the best of both worlds. You can opt for a range of different colours to match any theme, and with built in drawers or extra under-bed space, you can always ensure your little ones are happy and tidy!
Rearrange the furniture
Something I love doing when I get bored with a room is to have a shuffle around with the furniture. Rearranging the furniture in a child’s bedroom can give it a completely different feel and it can change how it looks completely. You don’t just need to rearrange the existing furniture though as you could also use pieces from other rooms if they’re not being used and change up your child’s room completely.
Declutter
One very easy way to give your child’s bedroom a makeover is to get rid of any clutter. Erin’s room can get a bit messy with toys being left out, books not being put away and there being things in the room that just don’t need to be in there. Give yourself a couple of hours, or even a day if you have the time, to get rid of anything unnecessary in the room. If you don’t like seeing toys and books on show then investing in good storage will help keep the room free from clutter.
