Something I have always loved about reviewing books is the thought that goes into the promotion of them. Years ago I only used my blog to review books and I remember all of the cool merchendise that came with them sometimes. We were recently sent Angry Cookie By Laura Dockrill and the package we got was really cool! Along with the book we received stickers, a pin badge and a cookie with Angry Cookie on it!
OH NO! Barbra the cactus won’t stop playing her recorder, the yummy strawberry toothpaste has run out, and now – to top it all off – Cookie has to have his hair cut! Which all makes for one VERY ANGRY little cookie… But perhaps you, the reader, can find a way to turn his grumpy frown upside down?
With Erin being quite… difficult at the moment I think Angry Cookie came at the perfect time. She quite often wakes up and is immediately grumpy and doesn’t want to do anything or have anything to do with us. Angry Cookie is exactly the same. I don’t think Erin knows why she is so angry some of the time but she is and we need to work our way through that to get our happy, cheeky Erin back again!
Even though Angry Cookie is in a really bad mood, for various reasons thorough the book, he realises at the end of the book, that you, the reader, has been there no matter what. Realising that he has a friend makes Angry Cookie happy! I love that this book helps children to realise what they might be feeling and it’s also a great way to talk about feelings and emotions, and why children might be feeling that way. It’s also such a lovely book for helping children to realise that their friends might be a bit miserable or angry at times but it’s important to still be their friend!
