This week’s children’s book review is all about Children’s book review: Wrigglesbotton Primary: The Talking Lamb by Pamela Butchart. The book was published by Nosy Crow and it can be purchased on Amazon.

Wigglesbottom Primary The Talking Lamb

Another hilarious take on school life from the brilliant Pamela Butchart – three stories of mayhem and chaos where pupils’ imaginations run riot…

The strangest things happen at Wigglesbottom Primary! A school trip to a farm introduces Year 2 to a lamb like no other. IT CAN TALK! And it’s about to get them all into big trouble!

Perfect for newly-independent readers, these are more funny school stories from award-winning Pamela Butchart, brilliantly colour-illustrated by Becka Moor.

Although not the first book in this series, it’s the first one that we’ve got. The great thing about these kinds of books is that although they’re part of a series they can also be read on their own. You might, for example, like the sound of the stories in one book more than another. The Wigglesbottom Primary series is aimed at children aged 5-7 so great for newly independent readers!

In this book there are 3 different stories; The Talking Lamb, The Art Class and The Wildcat. I like that there are 3 smaller stories as this means that young readers might not get overwhelmed thinking about reading a whole book in one go.

This is such a funny book and there’s loads going on that children will be able to connect with, such as school trips and new teachers. Pamela Butchart has really got the children spot on in the ways they talk and act. I could absolutely see my own daughter in some of these situations and imaging how she would react.

Another thing I loved was how the book was set out. The text is fairly large, with quite a few bits in bold, capital letters which really helps to put focus on the right parts throughout the book. There are also super fun illustrations throughout and it’s great to see the character’s expressions and reactions to things!

Overall, a great new series for us and one we’ll be getting more books from.
