I remember loving learning about history when I was in school and I always found different periods in time really interesting. However, children want fun ways to learn and I think that’s exactly what the Tom in Time books offer. We reviewed another in the series, the Ming Dynasty China, a little while back.

The book is set into really clear sections, even with a fantastic introduction so that children can understand what the book is all about. The double page spreads are really bright and colourful, depicting the scene and topic extremely well.

On each page there are small amounts of information relating to that subject, such as The River Nile or Scribe School. The bits of information are a paragraph at most so there isn’t too much for children to learn in any one go.

Not only is there some fun facts and great information about life in Ancient Egypt but there is lots to look at in the illustrations as well. There are loads of characters and mixed in somewhere is Tom, who you can find on each page. Some pages are easier than others but as you look for Tom with your child it gives you the opportunity to talk about what else is happening on the page as well.

I really like that there are ‘Can you spot?’ sections as well so if you do find Tom quite quickly, you can look for other things as well.

The Tom in Time books are such a fun and colourful way to introduce children to history and it’s a really different way of learning.
