How to make the most of your space in a small bedroom

AD | Collaborative post

Although not ideal, so many of us have smaller bedrooms than we would like. You need to be a bit more creative in a smaller space to make it work for you. In this post I’m sharing some tips for how to make the most of your space in a small bedroom!

Invest in good furniture

When working with a small room you really have to make the most of the space you do have. One of the best ways to do this is to think about your furniture and how it could work better for you. For example, day beds are great for making the most of your square footage as they double as both a bed and seating area. Look out for styles such as these practical day beds UK with drawers underneath or pull out trundle beds that offer additional sleeping space without taking up much room. High quality frames and materials will ensure the day bed lasts longer and is comfortable to sleep on.

Instead of having a freestanding wardrobe you might want to consider fitted sliding door wardrobes instead. These could work in a space that’s maybe an unconventional size or you might want something a specific size to fill wall space.

Good furniture may cost more to start with but you’ll feel the benefit down the line.

Declutter

Something that can very easily make a room instantly look smaller is if there is clutter everywhere. While this could happen due to a lack of clever storage, it’s important to have a big declutter every now and again. Start by putting anything away that should be in your bedroom, such as clothes laid on chairs or maybe books on your bedside table. Next, work through anything that shouldn’t be in the room and decide if it needs to go in another room or if you can get rid of it.

Look for specialists

If, like me, you don’t really know what you’re doing when it comes to interiors then look to hire a specialist. There are specialists for everything nowadays so you might find someone who is great at storage for small spaces or you might find someone who can give you tips to make your room look bigger than it actually is. There are also specialists for furniture too and you can find a lot like this online, such as https://urbanwardrobes.co.uk/services/fitted-bedrooms, where you’ll find so much inspiration for fitted wardrobes.

Use light colours

Dark colours can easily make a small room look even smaller so you might want to avoid these when choosing a new colour scheme. Go for light colours on the walls, around the windows and even with the furniture. You can add splashes of colour, whether that is light or dark, with accessories such as bedding or pictures.

Utilise your walls

Although you might not have a lot of floor space, you could probably make better use of your walls. Think about where you might be able to add shelves or where you could hang a mirror instead of using one that stands up. Shelves also help to keep clutter off of other surfaces and off the floor. You can get some wonderful storage for shelves now and it can really make a difference to your room.
