What To Do If You Are Struggling With Your Mental Health

Collaborative post

Everyone deserves to feel good, and that is why you can find some of my top suggestions on what to do when you are struggling with your mental health below. Read on to find out what they are.

Reach out to someone you trust

The first thing you can do if you’re struggling with your mental health is to reach out and talk to someone you trust about it.  They do say that a problem shared is a problem halved, and sometimes you can experience significant relief by just discussing any issues with another person and even coming up with some ways to deal with them.

Sometimes, though your problems won’t be solved just by talking about them,  it can still be helpful to let a trusted loved one or family member know how you’re feeling and that you need additional support at this time.  The options here also include reaching out to peer support groups, or even working with a professional therapist or counsellor who can help you really get to the crux of your issues and work through them.

Talk to a doctor

Sometimes, when you’re struggling with your mental health, the best thing you can do is reach out to a doctor.   For example, if you have been struggling with feelings of depression and or anxiety for two weeks or more, speaking to your doctor is always a good idea, as they will be able to go through some of the options for treatment with you, including talk therapies,  online CBT,  and medication if needed.

On occasion, there can be other underlying issues that may be impacting our mental health.  One such issue that commonly hurts mental health is ADHD.  This is because it can make life a lot harder due to a person’s likelihood to make more impulsive decisions, to struggle with concentration,  and even to struggle to maintain social relationships.  If you suspect that a condition like this may be a play and causing you mental health struggles, then getting a private adult ADHD assessment can be the best course of action.  This is because a private assessment will nearly always be much quicker than the other options.  In this way, giving you access to the support you need much faster as well.

Recalibrate your habits

It’s easy to fall out of good habits when we feel bad,  and this can further derail them, only enhancing our poor moods. With that in mind, if you are struggling, you may wish to take a quick look at your current habits and see where you can tweak them. For example, instead of sitting up late into the night doom scrolling,  resolving to have a calming bath and then read a novel is a much better way to go to sleep each night.

Similarly, while ordering takeout food may feel like a kindness to yourself in the moment,  eating nutritionally balanced meals will not only help your mood in the long term but also give you more energy and better brain health as well.
