Before Erin went back to nursery and we were spending a lot of time at home we struggled to keep Erin occupied and happy some of the time. Homeschooling wasn’t really for us, not in the traditional sense, so we looked for other ways to get Erin to think about different things. Something I had been thinking about buying for a while was a Magformers* set but was somewhat put off by the price. Thanks to Donna at What The Red Head Said I found the Magformers My First 32 Piece Set on their eBay shop in an auction and I won it for a much better price.

The Magformers My First 32 Piece Set comes with 32 mostly basic pieces (including 2 trees) and also 2 great books so that you can learn what you can do. I’m actually really glad we bought this set over any other because the books really helped both me and Erin figure out how to use the different shapes and how they stack together. One book has more basic instruction but there are shapes and patterns to place the pieces on top of. The other book has some slightly more complicated shapes, which are 3D rather than flat.

Magformers is like nothing else Erin has ever played with before so she was really interested to see what patterns she could make and how they stuck together. The set consists of square and triangle shapes so there are lots of different things you can do with them. These are full size pieces (mini sets are available too) and they’re a really good size for Erin. She can easily stack them up, place them together but most importantly, she can pull them apart again when she wants to do something else.

Although the Magformers My First 32 Piece Set has a price of around £35 (if you pay full price) I actually think it’s well worth it. The price is what I worried about mostly because it’s an expensive set if your child doesn’t like it. Luckily, Erin loved it and we have since bought other sets to put away for her for Christmas. The Magformers website has some great sales so we took advantage when they had some sets for 50% off!
