Celebrating Valentine's Day As A Family

Celebrating Valentine’s Day As A Family

Up until recently John and I have never been in a situation where we could go out together on our own without Erin. We don’t speak to the majority of John’s family and my family don’t live near us at all. Fortunately, my sister is living with us at the moment so we have had a bit more opportunity to have some time to ourselves. However, Valentine’s Day is not a thing for a husband and wife alone in our house but it’s a family affair. If you’re quite similar to us then there are plenty of ways that you can celebrate as a family.

No matter what age your children are you can always have some movie time together. Erin is only 2 but loves a couple of films. Moana is her absolute favourite so not only is this a great way to keep her entertained for at least 45 minutes (as much as she normally sits still for without help) but it’s a great chance to sit together on the couch as a family and do something together. Obviously, the older your children are the more options you’d have with regards to the films you can watch.

If we actually want to sit through more of the film then snacks are a sure way of getting Erin to stay in one place. When we go to the cinema we love to get a big bucket of popcorn so doing the same at home is the perfect way to recreate a movie night at home. We don’t want to fill Erin up with too many calories though so our new VonShef popcorn maker is a fantastic way to make popcorn at home.

Instead of being full of fat or covered in oil, this popcorn maker uses hot-air circulation and no oil at at all! We’re always looking for healthier options when it comes to snacks and this is a great option for us now. If John and I want to make our snack a little bit unhealthier though the lid doubles as a melting cup for butter!

What I love the most about having a popcorn maker at home though is having the cute cinema style boxes that come with it. Erin won’t remember her one and only cinema trip so far so this is a great way to get her used to the idea before we go again. She’s started to show a bit of interest in some adverts recently for films like Coco so maybe we’ll try taking her again soon.

The great thing about having Valentine’s Day at home is having things Erin is comfortable with and used to. If she does get bored then at least she’s surrounded by her own things. Sometimes when we attempt to go out for the day Erin can get annoyed, grumpy and tired very quickly. Valentine’s Day at home eliminated these problems and ensures we have a great day as a whole family.
