Today’s book review is for What Will You Dream of Tonight? by
What will you dream of tonight? Will it be a midnight balloon ride, sailing on the tail of a whale or swinging through the leaves on a jungle trapeze? This dreamy, sumptuously illustrated tale travels through deserts and waterfalls to shipwrecks and dragon-filled skies as a parent wonders where their child’s dreams will take them as they drift off to sleep . . .
One of Erin’s favourite times of day is story time before bed. John does bedtime 99% of the time and Erin can usually talk him into reading at least 3 books before she has to go to sleep. Sometimes though, she doesn’t want to go to sleep for one reason or another and she needs to be convinced that it’s a good idea. That’s where this book comes in.
What Will You Dream of Tonight? looks in on a mother reading her child a bedtime story and asking what she will dream of that night. The illustrations in What Will You Dream of Tonight? are absolutely beautiful. The pages offer all kind of ideas about what a child could dream about at night and they really take the child on a magical journey of wonder and excitement.
The book is written in rhyming verse but in a really soothing and calming way, which is ideal for bedtime. Although the book gets the imagination working, it doesn’t excite so much that the child won’t be able to go to sleep when it ends. What Will You Dream of Tonight? also has a really important message in that it lets the child know that they are safe and loved! Of course, not all dreams are nice ones so I liked that the book ends on this kind of message.
What Will You Dream of Tonight? is such a wonderful book for bedtime. Not only does it ignite the child’s imagination but it’s also soothing and relaxing which will hopefully help your child fall to sleep!
