Whether you are someone looking to buy, or you will be helping to pick your own right, there is a lot to think about when it comes to engagement rings. An engagement ring is something that should be worn for a really long time, hardly ever taken off therefore, a lot of thought should go into the kind of ring that you’re looking for.
One of the many things to consider is the precious stone that would like. There are more options than you might think of and you don’t have to go with something as ‘traditional’ as you may think. The ‘big four’ are probably the most popular of the precious stones to choose for an engagement ring and you can find a bit more about diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds below.
Diamonds
We all know the saying ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ and there’s probably a reason for that. It’s no secret that diamond engagement rings are the most popular and usually the first choice for a lot of people. You might be more aware of solitaire diamonds in engagement rings, which is when one singular stone is used, but nowadays there are some really fancy options that you can choose. You might like a cluster of diamonds instead or maybe you would like an engagement ring with stones down the side of the band. Abelini jewellery have a stunning selection of diamond engagement rings to choose from in a variety of settings.
Sapphires
Diamonds aren’t for everyone though and there are other options to consider, depending on personal preferences. You, or the person you’re buying for, might have a personal preference for sapphires and these can easily be worked into an engagement ring. The sapphire can either be the only precious stone used, be part of a cluster or be part of a more intricate design mixed with diamonds.
Rubies
Rubies are well-known as the red precious stone but you might not know that they can vary in colour. Rubies can be anything from a pink colour to blood red. The colour of a ruby can affect it’s quality and price, with the brightest red being the most expensive. Rubies are the traditional birth stone for July so this could be a really good option if you or your partner has a birthday in this month.
Emeralds
A lot of us might think of The Wizard of Oz and the Emerald City when it comes to emeralds as a precious stone. These stones are a rich green colour and also the birthstone for May. Including a birthstone into an engagement ring is a lovely personal touch and one your partner might really appreciate if this is something they are interested in. Green might also be a favourite colour, which would make an emerald engagement ring a good choice.
