Even before Erin was born books have been a big deal in our family. We try to make sure she gets to read (look at) a wide range of books and always has plenty available to her. Each month I’ll be writing about what books we’ve been reading with Erin and sometimes also posting a video! So, here’s what we’ve been reading this month:

This month has been a bit of a strange one really because we haven’t done much reading at all. Being away on holiday for a third of the month hasn’t left us with much time. Erin also hasn’t been too interested in her bookcase compared to a normal month. I think the slightly nicer weather and wanting to play outside may have had something to do with that!

Ghosts in the House

Toddler Books We've Been Reading: April 2018

At the edge of town lives a clever girl with a spooky problem: Her house is haunted! Luckily, she happens to be a witch and knows a little something about taking care of ghosts. She catches them, puts them in the washing machine, airs them out to dry, and gives them new lives as sofa covers, table cloths, and, of course, bed sheets to cozy up under. Fresh and charming illustrations in dynamic orange, black and white bring this resourceful heroine and these spooky ghosts to life.

Erin went through a really big ghost phase thanks to a certain episode of Paw Patrol. My sister bought Erin this book and it’s really super cute for a ghost book. Instead of being made like a regular book, the images in this one have been screen printed. You can see some of the marks in the pictures (shown below). Erin really quite liked that there was a mix of ghosts and cats so it was a winner all round really.

Maisy Goes On A Plane

Toddler Books We've Been Reading: April 2018

Maisy is going to visit her friend Ella, and she is taking a plane to get there. She’s very excited! Join the mouse as she checks in at the airport, finds her seat (by the window!) and makes some new friends on her flight. From the whoosh at takeoff to waiting in line for the bathroom, from buckling seat belts to arriving in a whole new wonderful place, flying is more fun with a friend like Maisy on board.

With Erin going on holiday abroad for the first time just recently we wanted to prepare her as much as possible. One of the ways we did this was to read Maisy Goes On A Plane to her. The book goes through being at the airport to getting on the plane and then arriving somewhere else. Erin was then able to pick things out after we’d been on holiday from what she could remember. I think this will be a book we keep and get out each time we fly somewhere.

Sound Books From Lidl

Toddler Books We've Been Reading: April 2018

Last time my mum came to visit we did our shop at Lidl which has sort of become a bit of a tradition. Erin remembers that Grandma will take her to the shop and buy her a new book. This time though, Erin couldn’t really decide on 1 book and ended up with 3. When she heard that these books made cat and dog noises she was so super excited and just had to have them both. They are honestly, a bit annoying if Erin presses them continuously but they are also easily hidden.
