What We’ve Been Watching: November 2018

What We’ve Been Watching is a monthly feature where we talk about everything we’ve been watching over the past month. It might be something on Netflix, Sky or even just a DVD we’ve had for years but wanted to watch again. If we’ve been watching something new we’ll talk about that too!

*May contain spoilers so read with caution!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was one of my favourite shows growing up and I have watched probably every episode a lot more than once. When The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was announced I was a little bit more than sceptical. I knew it would be dark and extremely different but I also knew I had to give it a go.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is pretty addictive and once I’d watched the first episode and decided it was great I breezed through the rest of the series. The whole series was much creepier at times than I was expecting and there was 1 episode in particular that was a bit scary. I really love the changes and how different this series is so it’s one that I’m looking to the next series of already.

AHS: Apocalypse

Due to the date that this post is going live I will still have the finale to watch so I can’t comment on the end just yet. However, this series has been a real mix for me. It started off so strong and I loved how it seemed to get back to it’s Murder House and Asylum roots. I remembered the creepy and unexpected show that I loved in the beginning. For me, there seemed to be a lot of excitement at the beginning and then the middle episodes were really slow which was a bit of a shame. I did love the return to Murder House though!

I’m still excited to see how this one ends but I do feel like it could have been that little bit more than what it was!

The Haunting of Hill House

Sometimes when a new show receives a lot of hype it can be hard to go into watching it with an open mind. The Haunting of Hill House received high praise and even from the likes from Stephen King so it had a lot to live up to.

It did exactly that… and more!

I am a big fan of the 1963 film The Haunting which is based on a book. One of the things that immediately stood out about The Haunting of Hill House was the references to the film (and obviously the book) and these were things that will only really be clear to a film geek like me. The little things got me really excited and not because it spoiled anything about the series but just because it was so clever.

So, The Haunting of Hill House was super creepy, jumpy as hell and pretty scary in places. However, it was also extremely well filmed and emotional like you wouldn’t believe. It’s hard to convey just how much I loved this series but it’s probably the best thing I’ve watched all year. If you’ve been thinking about watching this then stop putting it off and get on with it already!

This month we seem to have been following a bit of a theme but it’s been nice to watch a few things that were really different and not just crime/ or medical dramas like I watch mostly the rest of the time. Did you watch any of these this month?
