This year I turned 32 and although I knew it deep down, I realised that my skin really isn’t as good as it used to be. As a teenager I used to have pretty perfect skin and spots were a rarity. However, 15 years of smoking (2.5 years smoke-free) and not really looking after myself, my skin has suffered and it’s time to sort it out. So, here are some easy ways to look after your skin!
Drink More Water
I know this one is really obvious but I am terrible for not drinking enough water. Sometimes when you’re on the go and busy all of the time it’s really easy to forget to drink. I know that I don’t drink enough in general, and not only not enough water! A good idea would be to set alarms and drink a glass each time or maybe make sure you always carry a bottle around with you when you’re out and about. If you’re not a fan of plain water there are easy ways to add flavour like adding fruit!
Now that we’re heading into summer one of the most important ways to look after your skin is to use sun screen. Remember the Baz Luhrmann song saying:
‘If I could offer you only one tip for the future,
Sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists’
Well, those lyrics are certainly true and using sunscreen is so important. Although I like to be out in the sun and enjoy the heat when I’m on holiday, I also make sure I am lathered up in whatever kind I need (it was Factor 50 in Majorca). Being a parent now has also made me much more aware of using sunscreen properly and applying it more often than maybe I would have 5 or 10 years ago.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying that you need a bit of extra help when it comes to looking after your skin. So many people take addition vitamins to ensure their body gets what it needs and if you’re worried about your skin then this might be a good option for you. Colladeen Visage is an anti-ageing supplement so perfect for people at my age or older and it can help with a whole range of things, one of which is the condition of your skin. Colladeen Visage supports the normal collagen formation and also helps to protect against the sun no matter what time of day it is.
Obviously, supplements should not replace any aspect of your diet and should only be taken to help and support a healthy lifestyle.
The one thing I am good at remembering to do is to moisturise daily. Every morning I have a bath and moisturise before drying my hair and getting ready for the day. If I miss even one day my skin really feels tight and dry so I know how much of a difference it makes. I don’t use a really expensive moisturiser so I’m not sure how much of a difference this makes but doing something certainly helps.
Your skin is one of the things you can really look after easily and it doesn’t take much effort at all. If you have any tips please let me know in the comments!
