Whenever we travel John and I always like to look for the best deal or a way to save money. Something we have found numerous times is that buying vouchers in advance for meals can work out much cheaper than paying on the day. Just last week we headed to Ipswich for a few days and we wanted to have at least 1 meal booked and paid for in advance.
In the past we have had a really good experience with Buyagift vouchers and have been to places such as Planet Hollywood and Zizzi. When I was planning our trip away I had a look at what restaurants were in Ipswich and having been to Prezzo a few times before, I made sure I looked at Buyagift first for a voucher.
The voucher we used on this occasion for a three course meal with glass of wine for 2 at Prezzo usually costs £49.90. Buyagift often have offers and sales so it’s always worth keeping an eye out for the best price.
Booking the meal was really easy. To activate your voucher first you need to go to the Buyagift website to input the details and then it lets you book your meal through Bookatable. You quickly receive confirmation by email and you also have the option to add any requests. As the meal is for 2 people it only lets you book this size table but we knew Erin would be with us so I added a request to the booking.
Our table was booked for 12pm and the restaurant was pretty quiet at the time. We were seated in a corner with plenty of space for Erin’s pushchair, which was really appreciated. It also allowed us to spread out a bit which was quite important for Erin. The Buyagift experience is for a 3 course meal from a set menu so the options aren’t very extensive but there are still some lovely choices.
Starters
Eating out with Erin means that you never know if she is going to want to steal your food. Because of this, John and I tried to order food that all of us could share and enjoy. For starters we had the mozzarella in breadcrumbs and garlic bread. Both starters were simple but delicious and just a big enough size. I think if the portions had been any larger than I wouldn’t have wanted much for my main.
Mains
For our mains we decided on the margherita pizza and the carbonara. The carbonara is supposed to come with spaghetti but I asked if penne pasta would be okay instead and this was absolutely fine. The pizza was really big and really a bit too much for 1 person so I think sharing mains is a great idea. The carbonara was hot, creamy and delicious and I would definitely order it again.
Dessert
Unfortunately the dessert menu is quite lacking in options and there are only 3 things to choose from which are sticky toffee pudding, tiramisu and ice cream. It would have been nice to have a bit of a more traditional option but nevertheless, we went for sticky toffee pudding and chocolate ice cream
Even though I would have liked more options, our desserts were really nice. My sticky toffee pudding was just the right amount of everything and John said his ice cream (what Erin didn’t steal) was really good too! Sometimes something simple is exactly what you need after a large meal.
Children’s Meals
Although not part of the Buyagift experience we ordered Erin food as well. Prezzo has a Tots menu which consists of 3 courses and a drink for only £3.95. This is one of the most reasonably priced children’s meals I’m aware of and the food was lovely too.
Erin had plain bread sticks with garlic butter, plain spaghetti with a side of broccoli and chocolate ice cream for dessert. Even though these meals are for the under 5s, there was more than enough food and the portion sizes were great.
Based on the food we chose from the set menu, our meal would have cost roughly £43 without the wine so we would probably have been looking at around £50 at least. Obviously, if you pay the full voucher price then you don’t really save money but it’s nice to either give as a gift or to have a meal paid for in advance. I have seen this voucher on sale for £30 before so at this price you really would save a nice amount of money.
I love Prezzo, we are lucky to have a couple of branches locally. I didn’t realise they were available on buy a gift though
I love buying experiences as gifts, I think they are the best! Nothing beats time spent together and enjoying the company.
The food looks delicious! It’s a shame the dessert menu doesn’t offer more choice but I do love sticky toffee pudding!
Sounds really good. I’ve never brought gift experiences for people. The meal looks lovely ?
