When Erin started going to nursery one of the things I was strangely looking forward to was her bringing things home with her. Although we don’t do too much of it at home, Erin loves some messy play and she loves to play with colours and crayons. I knew that these kinds of activities at nursery would be some of her favourites and I wasn’t wrong. Erin has only been going for 2 months but already she has been sent home with lots of creations from nursery.
Erin is only 2 so I know that really, she just likes to scribble on paper and get messy. Erin has no idea what she’s drawing a picture for or really, who she’s drawing it for. All Erin knows is that pens, crayons and making a mess is a lot of fun.
Valentine’s Day seemed to be a great time for nursery to get creative and we were given 2 different pictures in the shape of love hearts from Erin.
We also got a lovely Valentine’s Day card from Erin as well, which is more than what John and I did for each other! We’re not that kind of couple really any more but it was lovely for nursery to do them with the children for their parents. Erin loves to do a series of dots on pictures so I can imagine us having plenty of ruined felt tips not too far in the future!
I am not the arty type at all and in fact, I struggle to sit and colour or draw with her for too long. When my Mum comes to stay Erin loves it because she will sit and colour with Erin for as long as she likes. I know it’s horrible to say but I just find it so boring. I’d much rather play other things with her.
This is one of the reasons why we wanted Erin to go to nursery when she turned 2 instead of waiting until she is 3. We wanted Erin to be able to do things we don’t do at home. I run out of ideas for things to do with her so nursery is a great place for her. Going to nursery helps Erin to be creative and that’s something I struggle to help her do.
So far Erin’s creations from nursery are being safely stored in a box but I know I’m going to need somewhere bigger and more protective soon to make sure nothing gets ruined over time. I know we’re going to get a lot over the next 2 years so I’d better be ready!
If you do something special with your children’s ‘artwork’ I’d love to know. Be sure to let me know in the comments!
Aww! How sweet…I still have so many pictures and paintings from when my girls were little. I have at least 4 huge plastic storage boxes full of their creations which I will keep. x
