The family home can be somewhere that gets messy and dirty quite quickly, especially when there are 3 adults, a 6 year old and 2 cats in the house. It takes a good piece of equipment to help keep on top of the cleaning and the Hoover Upright 300 vacuum cleaner (HU300) has been doing wonders for us.

The HU300, which is part of the upright vacuum range from Hoover Direct, has everything you’ll need inside the box.

Assembling the HU300
After taking everything out of the box I laid all of the different parts out on the floor so I could see what was what. Although instructions are supplied, the HU300 was so easy to put together that I didn’t need them.
The main body of the HU300 comes in a few different pieces. The bin needs attaching as does the handle, both of which click in really easily. You can then add the accessories, the crevice nozzle and the pet turbo brush, onto the specific spaces for them. These are kept out of the way but easily accessible for when you want to use them.
At the time of assembly, it’s worth taking some time to read the instruction manual to see what different things to and how different things come apart.
Weight
Something I’ve noticed with past vacuum cleaners is how heavy they are. I have struggled to move them up the stairs and often had to ask my husband to help. This really shouldn’t be the way as it’s something that needs using all over the house. Before even putting the HU300 together, I was able to carry it upstairs in the packaging with absolutely no trouble.
I’m not surprised to learn that the HU300 is Hoover’s lightest vacuum cleaner ever, only weighing 5kg. When I picked it up for the first time I wasn’t prepared for just how light it was. Instead of having to struggle moving the vacuum cleaner around the house, I could get from room to room with ease and also lift it up when I needed to.
Using the HU300
Something I immediately noticed is how easy it was to find the different features of the HU300. You’ll find all of the important parts labelled with bold, white tabs or buttons. These are clearly visible compared with the other black and blue colours on the machine.
Upright vacuum cleaners can sometimes be big and bulky but I didn’t find that at all with the HU300. The whole machine seemed to be really well designed with ease of use at the forefront. Not only is there a really long cable to ensure you can get around easily, but there’s even a little clip so you can keep it out of the way and yourself safe while cleaning the house.
Our house is one with various kinds of flooring. We have carpet, bare stairs, wood floorboards and lino so we need a vacuum cleaner that covers all of these surfaces. This model has a fantastic carpet to hard floor function, which is activated with just the flick of a switch. I can change the setting to what I need in only a second and also with ease.
Of course, the most important thing to think about with a vacuum cleaner is how well it actually cleans. The HU300 has fantastic suction and picked up even the smallest of bits of dirt. I was actually surprised at just how much was picked up even after only doing 1 room. This is exactly the kind of thing I need at home, knowing that when I clean a room, it is actually clean.
Accessories
With 2 cats in the house this can mean their hair being left all over the place whether that be on a bed, a sofa or a cushion. It’s not always easy to remove this without damaging surfaces. Jinx has a habit of making herself comfortable in Erin’s bed but by using the Pets Turbo Brush we can quickly freshen up her bed and make it lovely and clean again ready for bedtime.
Another great accessory is the 3 in 1 Crevice/Dusting/Furniture Nozzle. Most homes have areas such as picture frames and skirting boards that collect dust and need an easier and safer way to clean then. By using the 3 in 1 nozzle, along with the long handle, it’s possible to reach and clean these areas with very little effort.
Overall thoughts
Getting the right vacuum cleaner is a huge deal and this one works really well for us and our home. The overall weight of the HU300 makes this the ideal vacuum cleaner for us. I am able to move it around from room to room with ease and then carry it around to do some of the more awkward areas. The added attachments make dealing with cat hair a breeze and I no longer feel like I’m fighting a losing battle with it.
