This year in Reception Erin has been learning a lot about nature and wildlife and it’s something that she’s really been enjoying. We have been trying to encourage additional learning on this topic at home and while we’re out and about and this has been made easier with a set of Kidnoculars Extreme* from Learning Resources.
Kidnoculars Extreme are a great way for children to get a closer look at nature, wherever they are. They come with a great strap so children can put them around their neck and keep them close to hand for when they might need them. The strap is a breakaway strap as well so you know that your child will be safe while using the Kidnoculars Extreme.
Something I’ve never seen before with something like this is a built in microphone. You do need 2x AAA batteries and these are not included with the Kidnoculars Extreme so you need to add these in before the first use. There is an on/ off control on the top of the Kidnoculars Extreme, just to one side and it can be easily reached. There are earpieces on either side as well and this is where your child can hear any noises.
The Kidnoculars Extreme are really easy to hold and they’re designed really well for children. The viewing area is quite large and this means that it blocks out anything happening around you. Children can look through the eyepiece and just concentrate on what they have found.
There’s no need to try to focus the Kidnoculars Extreme on anything either as they come with 3x magnification and they are focus-free. Children are able to pick these up and look straight into them without messing about, giving them more time to explore and find something really interesting.
My only real negative about the Kidnoculars Extreme is that the ear pieces move but don’t fold down. The shape when folded out fully is quite awkward so if you wanted to put them in a backpack they would be quite bulky and not pack away neatly.
The Kidnoculars Extreme are something that we are probably going to end up taking away with us no matter where we go. They’ll be great for gardens, the beach and even places like a big building so that children can try to look at what’s going on right at the top!
