The Benefits of Coding Lessons for Children

AD | Collaborative post

Coding is a big thing that children can explore from a young age. It’s also a thing that will become more prominent in the future as the times change and we lean more towards technology. There are many benefits to your child learning to code, as this senior school in Surrey shares with us.

Helps kids understand technology

Getting to grips with the latest in tech and computing will greatly help a child heading into a very futuristic world. It gives children the chance to get to grips with a lot of new and inviting skills they’ll get to explore a lot more as they grow older. It can give children a headstart in terms of relating with technology and using it to further their goals.

Coding teaches children a universal language

The benefit of learning to code is that it’s entirely universal – so deploying it in websites and features across different languages is entirely possible. Children only need to pick up one type of code that will only vary from time to time, making it an easy and manageable language to pick up and use. It also helps children develop their skills across the board – they learn to communicate, interpret different requests and become aware of what each string of code does to impact its presentation.

It can be used to improve a child’s problem solving skills

In some lessons your child may be posed with an issue on a graphic, a website or any other kind of bug, that relies on coding to be fixed. This will help your child take a look at the issue and make calculated decisions based on what they know about coding, and what they believe could be a fix. There may not even be a right or wrong answer, so long as it remedies the situation.

Tests your child’s level of creativity

There’s actually a lot of creative things to try out in coding. Like solving problems, for instance, your child could provide a number of solutions to an issue. If there’s a broken part of a computer game for instance, your child could share 3 solutions that could work that are all creative in mind.

Coding doesn’t just involve working on just one medium – coding can be used in a number of ways. Your child could be interested in graphic design and front end development, as opposed to website development and more complicated things coding could be used for.
