The dream is to make money whilst you sleep and when you are awake, and an ecommerce offers just that. You can sell your products overnight, and when you wake up in the morning, you may have made more money than you did during the day.
If you are considering starting up your own ecommerce business, it could possibly be the best thing you ever do. It will give you freedom, the chance to earn more money, and you don’t have to report to anyone else – no more asking for a holiday and being rejected.
When starting up your ecommerce business, there are a few considerations. You’ll need a high-quality website, and you will also need a way to take payment and keep track of your invoicing. Having high-quality images is essential, as well as a good social media strategy – social media is very useful at driving sales.
Below are three things to consider when starting an ecommerce business.
Finances
To start with, when running an ecommerce website, you will be bringing in money and spending money – hopefully making more money than you are spending! With this in mind, you will need a way to keep track of it all. Using an accounts package can really help you with this, as you can track invoices, pay your staff, keep your expenses up-to-date (such as your health and safety purchases) and run reports. The software is easy to use and will help you stay organised from the get-go.
Website created
You can’t run a successful ecommerce business without having a good website. The two go hand in hand, as your website is your main offering and will be the thing customers go on to buy from you. Websites have a cost attached to them, so you should budget for having one created. You have three choices on this. You can do it yourself with a drag-and-drop builder, hire a freelancer, or reach out to an agency to do it for you (these will cost more).
When populating your website, ensure everything you upload is of good quality. Ensure you use a photographer for all your images (you want to showcase your products in the best light), and make sure you hire a copywriter to write your content – this way you know everything makes sense.
USP’s
What are the unique selling points of your offering? When selling products online, you want to ensure they are unique, as this way you are more likely to sell them. Your USP’s should be placed around your website as these are good selling points, as well as used on your social media channels. If you don’t have very strong USP’s, then ensure you are offering a better service or doing what someone else has done but better.
What type of ecommerce business are you planning on starting, and when will you be going to live with it? What do you think is the most important consideration? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
