So here are some of the tips and tricks to declutter your home and make some money doing it.

Get in the right mindset

One of the first things to ensure you do is to get in the right mindset to start decluttering. It can be such an overwhelming task, especially if it has built up for a while, so you need to get into the frame of mind of decluttering so that you can stay positive and focused. The more you focus on why you want to declutter the more determined you will be. Plus if there is any financial motivation you may be surprised how much money you could be hoarding away.

Decluttering methods

Decluttering is no easy task, and there isn’t a one size fits all method. So here are a couple of options that you might want to try.

Five minutes each day

One of the first things you could try is just five minutes per day. Everyone can spare five minutes so it is perfect if you are a little time-poor. Set a timer and start removing things from your home, at the end, you have a box that you can focus on getting rid of either by recycling, donating, or selling online.

The box method

Another great method is to look at the box method. This is where you have three boxes. One for donating, one for recycling, and one for selling. Then you can start in specific rooms or areas of your home and then fill the boxes up. It helps to give you some order and also forces you to make the decision on what you want and need in your home and what you can do without.

One room at a time

Last of all, a tried and tested method is to focus on one room at a time. This means that you can start to see the results, and once one room is finished, you can then marvel at the results and it will keep you motivated for the next room.

Be ruthless

When you are decluttering the one thing you must do is be ruthless. The aim is to get rid of things that no longer serve you. Do you want that item? Do you need it? The more you ask yourself the more you will start to keep the things you love rather than the things you think you need.

Where to make the most money

Once you have the things you no longer want or need in your home it might be time to try and make some money. Having a good declutter, and selling these items, is a great way to add some money to any sinking funds you might have. So. here are some of the places where you can sell your unwanted things.

eBay

When it comes to selling online one of the most popular places to do it would be eBay. This website has been around a long time and it is simple to do. Take a picture of your items and then list them as an auction or buy it now. That is it. You can make quite a bit of money doing this and you might be surprised how much some of your things could be worth.

Facebook marketplace

Facebook marketplace is another way to sell online but instead of having to post things out, you can have people pick them up. It means you can get cash for items and you can often get rid of things very quickly.

Vinted

Vinted is a new app that many people are using and it is similar to eBay in terms of taking pictures and listing items, but you list them for a set price and you can make offers or offer discounts for multiple purchases. You also don’t have any seller fees which is very beneficial.

A car boot sale

Finally, the tried and tested method is to sell at a car boot sale. These usually begin in the spring and they can be a great way to get rid of things fast and make some decent cash. However, be mindful that what you don’t sell means you need to bring it back.
