At this time of year I am in constant preparation for Christmas and Erin’s birthday on New Year’s Day. I’m sure you can imagine how much stuff we end up with at home within a short space of time. Between Christmas and birthday presents Erin get a lot of new things and of course, they all need to go somewhere. While I do try to have a bit of a clear out beforehand that’s not always enough so this year I have looked into new storage options.
Wanting something clean, simple and something that would hide quite a lot, I chose the Colonial Storage Chest from VonHaus.
The Colonial Storage Chest came packaged really well and unlike with some the instructions and parts were all mostly very clearly labelled. John and I put this together ourselves and it took around 15 minutes. I would definitely advise you to have two people putting this together as there were a few tricky bits than an extra pair of hands made a lot easier. There was only one part of the construction process that we got a bit wrong and that was the hinges. This was the only picture on the instruction that wasn’t very clear we so initially put these on both upside down and back to front. Luckily, the screws were easily taken out and everything changed around until we got it right.
I was actually really impressed with how easy the Colonial Storage Chest was to put together. Usually me and John fall out about flat pack furniture but we made it through this one without any arguments at all!
The quality was of a much higher standard than I had first imagined. The lid and sides of the chest are quite thick and heavy and really very sturdy. The one area that is not quite as strong is the bottom of the chest as this is made from a much thinner material. However, we have had a lot in the box and unless you really load it with a lot, I think it will be able to cope with holding a fair amount (which is exactly what we need).
Measuring H45 X W80 X D40cm, this chest can be used for all different kinds of things. Although I had plans for the chest to be used for toy storage it would make a great place to keep soft furnishings like throws and cushions or maybe even somewhere to keep all of your bedding!
VonHaus also offer matching items to go with the Colonial Storage Chest and a lot of these are designed for being used in the bathroom. I really appreciate that there are products to go with this one and if we had a bigger bathroom then it’s a range I would definitely buy more of. The clean, white design is ideal for most rooms in the house which is why I decided to use it as toy storage.
