What We've Been Watching: October 2019

What We’ve Been Watching: May 2019

What We’ve Been Watching is a monthly feature where we talk about everything we’ve been watching over the past month. It might be something on Netflix, NOW TV, Sky or even just a DVD we’ve had for years but wanted to watch again. If we’ve been watching something new we’ll talk about that too!

*May contain spoilers so read with caution!

TV and Streaming

The New Monty

While we were on holiday at Kelling Heath there was no internet signal so I was forced to watch whatever channels we could get on the TV. Over two nights, ITV had a show called The New Monty. One show was the men’s version and the other was a women’s version with various celebrities coming together to to The Full Monty to raise awareness for various types of cancer.

I was not prepared for how emotional I would feel watching these shows. I think all of the celebrities had been affected by cancer in one way or another so they all had personal stories to tell and great reasons for wanting to raise awareness. Not only were the performances amazing but such a great reason to do what they did.

Game of Thrones

I couldn’t write this month without mentioning Game of Throne. After 8 series it’s all finally over. John and I got up at 2am for the final 4 episodes. After The Long Night there was so many spoilers online so we didn’t want to risk seeing anything before we had the chance to see each episode. I know there was A LOT of people who weren’t happy with the final episode especially but I personally really enjoyed it. There was some unexpected twists and a lot I wasn’t prepared for to happen. Overall though, I do think everyone mostly ended up in the right place.

Film

The Perfect Date

I love nothing more than a good teen film but there aren’t enough of them being made any more. I knew that as soon as I saw the trailer for The Perfect Date that it would a film for me.

This film is about a high school student who desperately wants to get into Yale. Amongst other things, he can’t afford it. By chance, he ends up taking the cousin of someone he knows from school out to a dance and gets paid for it. This gives him the genius idea to make this into an app and to offer his services to other people.

Of course, the film was predictable and cheesy but I loved it. Sometimes you need one of those films that is really easy watching and The Perfect Date is definitely that.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

There aren’t many films that I get really excited about seeing nowadays. As soon as I saw this film advertised I knew I had to see it. I even re-activated our NOW TV film subscription just so I could watch it.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile stars Zac Efron as Ted Bundy and is definitely his most serious role to date. Playing his girlfriend is Lily Collins. The film really wasn’t what I thought it was going to be but I still enjoyed it from beginning to end. Ted Bundy obviously did some horrific things while he was alive but this film sort of shows how he was able to do it. It showed him using his charm and looks to get what he wanted. I didn’t really know a lot about him before but I think this film really told the story well without being too graphic or making Ted Bundy seem like something he wasn’t.

It’s been a bit of a strange month with us being away and being quite busy with other things so I haven’t watched as much as I normally would. I’m looking for something new to watch now though so any recommendations are welcome!

  1. Oh yes the TedBundy film wasn’t what I was expecting either, but I thought that Zac Efron did a really great job with the role. Don’t even get me started on Game of Thrones. As much as I love the series I was slightly disappointed with the ended. But I love the entire series.

  2. What a great idea for a post. We often have debates in our house about who chose what film and this would be one way of solving it, blogging about it!!

I loved GOT so much, feel a bit lost without it already.

I definitely want to check out the Ted Bundy film.

    Great post x

  3. We don’t really watch much and I haven’t seen any of these, but they are great descriptions for me to know which ones might be of interest in the future 🙂

  4. I love your little watch round ups, for finding new things to watch. I’ve never seen any of these. We’ve been watching Drag Race, Queer Eye and Tiny House Nation this month.

  5. I enjoyed the Ted Bundy film but after beig a loyal GOT fan for 8years, I am SO disappointed with how it ended. We are watching Years and Years on BBC at the moment which is really good. Really looking forward to new Killing Eve and series 3 of The Handmaids Tale.xx
