When we first stared weaning with Erin all that time ago we thought we had a highchair that would like a long time. Erin seemed to really like it to start with but as soon as she was on the move she wasn’t having any of it. Erin is, and really always has been, an independent child who likes to be the same as us and do things for herself. This has meant that she wants to sit in the big seats like we do without being confined and strapped in to anything.
Up until recently we have been using a booster seat for Erin at the dining table but more and more she is asking to sit on one of the other chairs or to not be strapped in. As Erin is 3 in a couple of weeks we decided to upgrade and let Erin have the independence she seems to crave. We were kindly sent the Baby Bjorn Booster Seat to help Erin out!
The first thing I noticed about the booster seat was how sleek and stylish it looked. The booster seat we had before was a lot bigger, with a high back and what seemed to be straps everywhere. It didn’t look very nice on the seat, has too many pieces where food can get lost and it stood out a lot. Our new Baby Bjorn booster seat is white but it does also come in a mint green colour as well.
Fitting the booster seat to a chair couldn’t have been easier. The strap unlocks on one side of the seat and you need to turn it really hard to get it undone. There’s no way that Erin will be able to get this undone no matter how hard she tries so I have no worries about how safe this booster seat is.
Once the lock is undone you can feed the strap underneath the chair you’ll be using. The strap can be lengthened if you need to and then once in place you just lock it up again. At this point you can tighten the strap underneath to make sure everything is secure and once done, the seat won’t move.
Erin is really quite messy and after most meal times I have had to thoroughly clean the old booster seat as it had an insert to make it more comfortable. Something I love about the Baby Bjorn booster seat is that it is only one main piece and it wipes clean so easily. There are no nooks and crannies for food (and God knows what else) to hide in so it’s a much more hygienic option.

Surprisingly, Erin took a little persuading to actually use the seat. I don’t know why really but she was a bit upset that I’d taken her old one away even though she hasn’t wanted to use it for a while now. After talking her round and showing her that she could now get in and out herself and wouldn’t be strapped in, she was a bit happier about giving it a go.
Even though Erin showed some resistance to begin with it didn’t take her long at all to get used to the new booster seat. She seems much happier to not be strapped in now and she feels like she’s sat more like me and her dad. The Baby Bjorn Booster Seat gives Erin the freedom she has been craving but still keeping her safe at the same time.
Now, instead of being unsafe in the old booster seat or having to kneel up on a regular chair Erin can sit up to the table just like we do at meal times!
