Blackpool: Everything to see and do at the North-Wests favourite seaside resort

Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Irish Sea coast of England. Situated in the North West of England this place has been a well-known landmark for decades. From some of the old-school attractions. To new and exciting places to see Blackpool will always be a popular destination for a weekend away or an English holiday. With that in mind, I thought I would explore some of the finer things you can do in this seaside town.

What to do when you are there

There are some attractions that are well worth a visit in Blackpool. It isn’t just a place for kids. Of course, you can, however, embrace your inner child by visiting Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Here you will find the famous roller coaster known as the “big one” and some of the older wooden rides that have been around for years gone by. There is also the Sandcastle water park which is an indoor pool and waterslide complex. Both of which can be fun for adults and children alike.

You could take a walk along the pier. Here you will be reminded of a more vintage English holiday. With amusement arcades and Punch and Judy shows you are bound to reminisce about your childhood.

Blackpool tower can offer you something a little different. With a glass viewing platform and the famous ballroom. You could twirl and dance an afternoon away to the Wurlitzer organ. While you are there, you should take in the sights and sounds of the Blackpool Tower Dungeon. Where you will be told horrid histories of years gone by. Stories of plague and torture. Not one for the faint-hearted. Depending on when you go, you may also be able to take in the famous illuminations. Where you will find the whole promenade lit up in bright lights. This is an annual event and one not to be missed.

Don’t forget the famous Blackpool beach. Where you can build sandcastles to your heart’s content. You could even dip your toes in the Irish sea.

Where to eat

Of course, you can’t take a trip to the seaside without the standard English fish and chips. Where better to eat fish than by the sea. Just be careful if you decide to eat it outside, those pesky seagulls have also taken a liking to the fish and chips combination. If you are looking for a more refined meal, then there is no place better than The White Tower Restaurant. Here you can sip fine wines or fancy cocktails. Not to mention the wonderful food available. There are many bars to enjoy in an evening if you would like to extend your evening out.

Where to stay

Who could resist a good old-fashioned B&B when staying in a seaside location. It just screams a vintage English getaway. But alternatively, there are some more luxurious establishments in Blackpool. A great idea when it comes to accommodation is to do your research in advance. It’s always good to read some opinions about a prospective accommodation choice. There are also websites that offer a more home-from-home option. It all depends on what you are looking for, but rest assured; you will find something to suit your dreams and budget in Blackpool.

What you don’t know

What perhaps won’t be as advertised as say the main attraction is that Blackpool has a thriving music and arts scene. With three theatres and various music locations, you will struggle to find something to listen to or watch.

Blackpool is also home to Notarianni’s, which is famous for its homemade ice cream. This place has been serving the good people of Blackpool and beyond since 1928 and it is still going strong. Worth a visit for sure.

You also have a chance to visit some of the animal attractions. Blackpool Zoo is a popular destination as is the Sealife centre. These are fabulous places to spend a morning and an afternoon. What you perhaps didn’t know, is Blackpool has its very own Madame Tussauds. Offering waxworks of all your favourite celebrities. It’s an attraction not to be missed.

I hope this has inspired you to book an English escape to Blackpool. Whether you are a traditionalist at heart, or like your modern amenities. Blackpool is the perfect mix between modern and nostalgia. There is always something to do in this coastal town. Whether it is a weekend or a bit longer, you are guaranteed to have an amazing time.
