How does the Jam Doughnut app work?
There are so many cashback sites and options out there now. Jam Doughnut is an app that works a bit differently. Setting up an account and using it for the first time is easy though, just follow these instructions!
Download the app & sign up
It’s really easy to get started with Jam Doughnut and the first thing you need to do is to download the app. You’ll be asked for a few details and to confirm via email. It only takes a couple of minutes then you’ll be ready to start earning cashback.
Choose your retailer
When you’re ready to start earning cashback, be sure to go through the list of retailers. A favourite of mine is Sainsbury’s as I shop there a couple of times a week. You can use the search function to look for retailers or scroll through the options on the screen.
Purchase a gift voucher
When you have chosen your retailer it’s time to purchase a gift card. After clicking on the retailer, you then need to use the ‘purchase securely’ button. This will take you to a screen asking how much you want to prepay (like buying a gift card).
Once you have chosen your amount you’ll be taken to a payment screen. The choices are either pay by bank or with Google pay. Both options are quick and easy to do however, you might be asked to confirm via your banking app at the time of purchase for security.
Top Tip: You don’t have to purchase a prepay voucher to cover the whole amount. Say your shopping issuing to cost £12.99, you can prepay £10 and then pay the rest as you would normally in the shop. This will save you having left over on a prepay voucher that you migth not end up using.
Finish your shopping
Once you have paid you will be able to see your prepaid voucher in the Jam Doughnut app. This works like any other gift card in a store. For example, if shopping in Sainsbury’s on the self check out tills, you choose gift card as the payment type and then scan the barcode. Each time I do this, I get a receipt for the gift card I’ve just used, showing me how much I used and what the balance is.
Use online too!
The Jam Doughnut app can also be used for retailers online. Each retailer in the app will say whether you can earn online or instore, or both, and give instructions of what to do with your prepaid card.
Where can you get cashback?
The great thing about Jam Doughnut is that it is partnered with so many different retailers. In fact, there are over 200 retailers to choose from including everyday favourites such as Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Aldi. You can earn cashback on meals out at places such as Bella Italia, Costa and Nando’s. There’s loads of other options too such as B&M, Matalan and Cineworld!
Pumped-up offers
Be sure to keep an eye out for pumped-up offers on the app. Pumped-up offers mean increased cashback from certain retailers e.g one weekend supermarkets were increased and another week, it was DIY and home improvement retailers.
Instant cashback
Unlike a lot of other cash back sites, you don’t have to wait for your cashback with Jam Doughnut. Once you have paid for your purchase with your gift card in the app, your cash back will automatically be added to your balance. You can easily see your balance in your wallet in the app.
After shopping with a prepaid card, you’ll receive an email to confirm the cashback you’ve just earned!
How much cashback can you earn?
How much cashback you can earn really depends on where you shop and how often. Some retailers only offer 1% cashback but some can be up to 10%. Jam Doughnut often has offers where cashback amounts are boosted for higher earnings.
Cashing out!
When you earn cashback with the Jam Doughnut app you earn jar points. Each point is worth 1p and you need 1000 points to cash out, which means £10. Your wallet in the app shows how much you have already earned and how far away you are from being able to cash out.

Pros

Cons
- A lot of brands need you to buy a minimum of £10 on a gift voucher. This might not work for you if it’s a one-off purchase or somewhere you don’t always shop
- Gift vouchers need to be purchased in round amounts eg. £10, £11 or £12.
- Not great for small purchases
Overall, Jam Doughnut is an easy app to use to earn cashback. It’s great for places you shop at regularly and others if you’re careful about how much you buy on a prepaid card.
