One room in our house that needs a lot of attention is the bathroom. We knew this when we bought the house 4 years ago but we just haven’t gotten round to doing anything about it. Our needs have definitely changed in those 4 years though and I’m actually glad we haven’t touched it yet. With that in mind, here are some ways to make your bathroom work for a whole family:
An Up To Date Boiler
Our boiler is a beast. It’s one of those old, massively heavy things that takes up a lot of space. It costs a fortune to run on the electricity and we have to wait for the water to heat up before we can have a bath or use any hot water. Honestly, it’s one of my most hated thing about our house. Not having an up to date boiler also means that we have awful storage heaters so we really need to look into central heating plumbers to come out sort our whole system so we can stop planning times for us all to get baths.
Bath And Shower
At the moment we only have a bath and while we can cope fine, it’s a bit of a pain. Erin doesn’t really like showers yet so we definitely need the bath for her but John and I would find life a lot easier with a shower. Having a bath seems to take so much longer and we could do with cutting down the time we spend in the bathroom in the mornings. Taking a quick shower seems like no effort at all compared with the time it takes to run a bath and then actually get in it.
A Toilet
I know that this might sound like a strange one as a toilet is a pretty normal thing to have in a bathroom. However, we don’t actually have a toilet in ours at the moment. Our toilet is separate in a room under the stairs. This was absolutely fine when it was just me and John but Erin decides in a split second that she needs a wee and thankfully, she is still using a potty at the moment so we have something portable but it won’t always be that easy!
Storage
Our bathroom needs to hold a whole lot. We store all of our towels in there at the moment as well as Erin’s huge collection of toys and all of our toiletries. We like to keep as much as we can out of Erin’s reach so clever storage would be a must. I would really like a lockable airing cupboard, a tallboy for storing toiletries and also something extra for Erin’s toys.
Like I said, there is a lot of work that needs doing to our bathroom and we would of course, hire a plumber to carry out the work because it’s definitely not something we’re qualified to do ourselves.
