John works 6 days a week a lot of the time and takes lunch with him every single day. As crazy as this may sound, the place where he works doesn’t have a microwave and they won’t allow one due to some kind of rule. This means that John has to take cold lunches or buy food in the cafeteria, which never happens because it costs more money! I guess this is probably why they don’t have a microwave.
Up until recently we have had to make do with Tupperware and lunch boxes filled with boring sandwiches, pasta or salad. While that is great for the summer months it really sucks for the winter. I want John to be able to take hot meals that will fill him up, I want him to be able to take something different to a sandwich and I just want him to be able to have some variety. However, when we were sent the Hydro Flask Food Flask I was excited!
The Hydro Flask Food Flask comes in 2 sizes; 12oz and 18oz and various colours. We have the 18oz flask so there is plenty of room for John to take a good sized meal to work. This flask is designed to keep food or liquid hot for up to 12 hours thanks to the TempShield insulation. Now, this is an important point to make here because I wouldn’t want anyone to think you could keep a meal piping hot all day with this flask. However, there are things you can do to help your food stay hotter for longer. Before putting your hot food into the flask pour some boiling water in there to pre-heat the inside of the flask. This will give your food a little bit longer and some extra heat.
Now, I know I have mentioned that we initially wanted something that could hold hot foods but the Hydro Flask Food Flask is also great for cold foods as well. If John was to take something like a fruit salad to work it would probably be a bit soggy and disgusting by the time it got to work as it would have gotten too warm. With the Hydro Flask Food Flask food stays nice and cold, keeping it as delicious as it should be as it can keep things icy cold for up to 24 hours.
It is made from professional-grade stainless steel which means that you can eat something hot and spicy one day but you’d never know the next day after it has been washed. The inside of the flask doesn’t stain and it doesn’t smell which is a problem we always have with Tupperware boxes. I cannot tell you how many of them are stained red now from pasta sauce but we don’t have that problem any more.
The one thing that I think would make the Hydro Flask Food Flask better is a carry handle. This is a really minor point and not something that would affect the actual purpose of the flask but it would make carrying it to and from work etc. a bit easier.
Now, John can quickly heat up leftovers or something defrosted from the freezer in the morning before heading out to work and have a delicious and filling lunch. The Hydro Flask Food Flask has made such a difference for John’s lunches and now I really want a smaller one for Erin.
