Preparing for back to school with Books2Door

The summer holidays always go far too quickly and by the time we know it, we’re preparing for our children to start a new year at school. We don’t like to go the whole summer without doing anything educational though and this year we’ve been helping Erin to prepare for Year 2 with Books2Door.

Something we’re really keen for Erin to develop is her reading skill. Last year she was determined to reach a certain level at school but didn’t quite get there. Books2Door has some really great book sets for children who are learning to read starting with early phonics books to sets for more advanced readers.

Reading Champions Developing Readers

Sometimes it can be really hard to tell what kinds of books to buy, especially if your child is just starting to learn to read. The Reading Champions Developing Readers set is aimed at children aged 5-7 and comes in it’s own plastic case containing 30 books! The set also comes with a parent and teacher guide to help you and your child get the most out of the books.

The Reading Champions Developing Readers set is split up into different reading groups and colour coded. This is a great way to make it even easier to help you decide which level your child needs to be reading. Sometimes, I think big sets of books can be a little bit overwhelming but with this one you can separate the levels by colour and put the others away until you’re ready for them.

The book shown below is from one of the more advanced levels in this set. You can see that the text is really well laid out and a good size. Even if your child isn’t quite ready to read the more advanced books yet, they still might want to give them a go by picking out some words they do know!

Books2Door also sell another Reading Champions set aimed at children up to 5 years old, also containing 30 books!

Usborne My Second Reading Library

Another great reading set for ages 5-7 is the Usborne My Second Reading Library. This one comes in a solid case, which is a great way to keep all of the books together and safe in one place. Usborne do all different kinds of reading libraries with Books2Door offering those right from the First Phonics Reading Library.

Usborne My Second Reading Library

Usborne’s My Second Reading Library contains a huge 50 books so is great value for money. A set like this is something that will keep your child going for quite some time especially as the books are set up into three different reading levels.

The first 14 books are taken from Usborne First Reading Level Three. These stories, including many classic tales, are designed to boost developing readers’ confidence.

The next 16 books are taken from Usborne First Reading Level Four. These slightly longer stories help to increase readers’ stamina in a range of story styles.

20 further books are taken from Usborne Young Reading Series One. Each of these books contains several lively short stories or one long story in easy-to-read chapters.

What I love about this set is that all of the stories are fairly well-known. I often think that reading something familiar is a huge help when it comes to progressing or getting quicker at reading in general. With stories such as Aladdin, Chicken Licken and the Owl and the Pussycat, there’s bound to be a story your child has heard before even if they haven’t read it themselves… yet.

Text in a book

Usborne have designed a really great set to help children with different areas of reading. Going back to the description of the different sections, some books are designed to help build stamina with others are designed for confidence. These are both things children will be expected to work on at school so it’s something they can also be working on at home as well.

Although I have highlighted a couple of the great reading libraries from Books2Door they also have so much more that’s perfect for back to school. Older readers might like chapter books or there are lots of choices when it comes to non-fiction; learn about science and the planets or maybe discover a new period in history with the Horrible Histories book sets.
