In just a few days we will be going on our first family holiday abroad and I am so excited it’s unreal. Going abroad seems to be a much bigger operation that staying somewhere in the UK because there’s a lot more than you need to take with you. I do the packing in our house just so I can have the peace of mind of knowing we have everything we need. I like to make lists and John would pack last minute if he had his way so it works out well for us. To help others in a similar situation, I though I’d write a post about travel essentials for the whole family.
Medical Care
For me, this is one of the biggest worries about going abroad. Here in the UK I know I can get anything I need close by and also I know I can get the exact brand of something I will need. Going abroad with a toddler also means taking a lot more medical supplies than you probably would normally so here’s a list of some items we’re taking with us this time.
Plasters
Calpol and Infant Ibuprofen
Painkillers
Antiseptic cream
Insect bite care (Zap-It Mosquito Insect Bite Relief Device, Mosquitan Patches)
Medication for stomach issues (Hübner’s Silicea Gastro Intestinal Gel Direct)
Skin care (HEVL SPF 50 Face Crème, sun screen, after sun, moisturiser)
Essentials
Obviously, it’s important to think of things like medical supplies but you really can’t get by without those everyday items. Make sure you don’t forget the following:
Oral care (Curaprox Black is White Charcoal toothbrushes and toothpaste and gum)
Shower gel
Hydrating hair care
Extra towels
Clothes – Make sure you have plenty of changes especially if there are no laundry facilities
Swimwear if you’re going somewhere with a pool/ the sea
Comfortable shoes
Pajamas
Travel plugs/ adapters
Sunglasses
Electronics
Phones
Tablets
Camera
Spare batteries
Powerbanks
Battery charger
Child Specific Items
Packing for Erin is something different altogether. I feel like where I can sort of get away with the bare minimum for me and John, I really can’t risk forgetting something for Erin. There are lots of things to think about packing for children so here are some of the things I am taking for Erin.
Stroller
Nappies/ pull ups
Wet wipes
Nappy bags
Sun hat
Favourite bottle/ beaker
Familiar blanket and teddy
Toys and activities for travel time/ down time in a hotel room
Healthy snacks (Little Dish Fruity Bite Bars and Piccolo fruit pouches)
Bath and skin care (Good Bubble Gruffalo range: bubble bath, moisturiser, hair and body wash and detangler)
I love a packing list so hopefully, this helps you to remember some really important items for your next holiday. If you can think of any other items, please let me know in the comments!
